QuickBooks Online Customers Page Error

How to fix the display error on the Customers or Suppliers page in QuickBooks Online by changing the sort order.

Overview

If you encounter an error when accessing the Customers or Suppliers page in QuickBooks Online, the issue is often caused by a stuck sort setting rather than a system malfunction.

The Fix

  1. Go to the Customers (or Suppliers) page -- Navigate to the page where the error is occurring.

  2. Find the "Sort by" dropdown -- Look for the Sort by dropdown box located next to Batch Actions.

  3. Change the sort order -- Select a different sorting criteria from the dropdown. For example, if it is currently sorted by name, switch it to date or balance.

The sort setting in QuickBooks Online is "sticky," meaning it persists from session to session until you manually change it. A problematic sort setting can cause the page to error out, and simply selecting a different option resets the display.

Why This Happens

QuickBooks Online remembers your last sort preference for the Customers and Suppliers pages. In some cases, the stored sort setting becomes incompatible with the current data set -- for example, if a custom field was removed or the data changed in a way the sort cannot handle. Switching to a different sort option clears the conflict.

Tips

  • If the error returns, try sorting by a simple field like Name or Balance.
  • Clearing your browser cache may also help if the sort setting issue persists.
