QBO Sales Tax Past Payments Don't Show Up in the Recent Payments Area of the Sales Tax Center

Why historical sales tax payments may not appear in QuickBooks Online's Sales Tax Center and how to find them.

The Issue

In QuickBooks Online, the Sales Tax Center's "Recent Payments" section only displays payments that were made through the current sales tax system. If you previously recorded sales tax payments under a different vendor setup or through an older version of the sales tax workflow, those payments will not appear in the Recent Payments area.

How to Find Older Payments

To locate earlier sales tax payments, check the records under the previous vendor names that were associated with your tax agencies. These older payment records still exist in your QuickBooks Online data -- they are simply not displayed in the new Sales Tax Center view.

You can find them by:

  1. Going to Expenses > Vendors and locating the previous tax agency vendor name.
  2. Opening the vendor's transaction history to view past payments.
  3. Alternatively, running a Transaction Detail by Account report filtered to your sales tax liability account to see all payments regardless of which vendor name was used.
