How to Cancel Your QuickBooks Online Subscription

Overview

If you need to cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription, you can do so directly from your account settings. The process takes just a few minutes to complete.

Steps to Cancel

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online -- Go to qbo.intuit.com and log in with your credentials.

  2. Click the Gear icon -- In the upper right corner, click the gear icon to access settings.

  3. Select Account and Settings -- Under Your Company, click Account and Settings.

  4. Go to Billing & Subscription -- Navigate to the billing section of your account settings.

  5. Click Cancel Subscription (or Cancel) -- Look for the cancellation option within the billing details.

  6. Complete the exit survey -- QuickBooks will ask you a few questions about why you are canceling. Answer the questions and click Continue to proceed.

  7. Confirm the cancellation -- Follow any remaining prompts to finalize the cancellation.

What Happens After Cancellation

  • Your data is retained for a limited period after cancellation. You can reactivate your account during this window to regain access to your data.
  • Before canceling, consider exporting your important reports, transaction lists, and customer/vendor data to Excel for your records.
  • If you are on a contract or promotional plan, check whether early cancellation fees apply.

Before You Cancel

  • Download and save any reports or data you may need in the future.
  • Disconnect any bank feeds or integrations.
  • Inform your accountant if they have access to your QuickBooks file.
