How to Change Your Country Origin in QuickBooks

Steps to change the country setting on your QuickBooks account by switching from an international subscription to a US subscription.

Overview

QuickBooks subscriptions are tied to a specific country or region. If you need to change your country of origin -- for example, switching from an international version to a US version -- you will need to adjust your subscription.

How to Change Your Country Origin

  1. Remove your current international subscription -- If you have an active international QuickBooks subscription, you must first cancel or remove it. Go to your account settings and follow the cancellation process for your current plan.

  2. Subscribe to a US subscription -- After your international subscription has been removed, sign up for a new US-based QuickBooks subscription. This will set your country of origin to the United States.

Important Notes

  • Data migration -- Before canceling your existing subscription, export all of your data. You may need to re-import it into the new subscription, and some data formatting (such as currency, tax settings, and date formats) may need to be adjusted.
  • Currency differences -- Switching regions may affect how currencies are handled in your books. Review your chart of accounts and transactions after the switch.
  • Feature differences -- QuickBooks features can vary by country. Some features available in one region may not be available in another.
