Cancel QuickBooks Online Subscription

How to cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription, including steps for active and suspended accounts.

Before You Cancel

Before canceling your QuickBooks Online subscription, print or export all forms and reports that you might need. Once your subscription is canceled, your data access becomes read-only for a limited window -- generally about a year -- and is then deleted, so a few exported reports are rarely enough. For a complete, portable copy of every list and transaction with line items and attachments, consider a full QuickBooks Online data backup before you leave, delivered as Excel, CSV, or a database you keep. Note that cancellations cannot be processed through the mobile app.

Standard Cancellation Steps

You need Master Admin or Company Administrator access to cancel.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company file.
  2. Click the Gear icon and select Your Account (or Account and Settings).
  3. Go to Billing & Subscription (or Billing info).
  4. Click Cancel Subscription (or Cancel trial).
  5. Complete the exit survey and click Continue.
  6. Follow all instructions on the cancellation page to finalize.

Your cancellation is not effective until you complete all of the instructions on the cancellation page. The Master Admin will receive an email confirmation once the cancellation is processed.

Canceling a Suspended Account

If your account has been suspended for more than 14 days, your data becomes read-only. You can still cancel:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Close any resubscription prompts that appear.
  3. Click the Gear icon and go to Your Account.
  4. Select Edit Billing Info.
  5. Click Cancel Subscription and follow the prompts.
